This evening I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, with Johnny Depp once again bringing Captain Jack Sparrow to the screen. This is the third, and sadly, final movie of the Pirates trilogy. No, it’s not a movie about pets (although there are some animals in it), but like the other Pirates of the Caribbean movies, it certainly pulled me right in, with the many twists and turns making me wonder what was next.
Here’s the synopsis:
Just when he’s needed most, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), that witty and wily charmer of a pirate, is trapped on a sea of sand in Davy Jones’ Locker. In an increasingly shaky alliance, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) begin a desperate quest to find and rescue him. Captain Jack’s the last of the nine Pirate Lords of the Brethren Court who must come together united in one last stand to preserve the freedom-loving pirates’ way of life. From exotic Singapore, to World’s End and beyond, from Shipwreck Island, to a titanic battle, this adventure’s filled with over-the-edge action, irreverent humor and seafaring myth and magic. Everything has led to this twisting, turning, wild swashbuckling ride in this final chapter of the Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy.
As for the animals I mentioned earlier, keep an eye out for the parrot and the monkey – they’ve got a few pretty cute scenes. My favorite is when the monkey lights some rockets and then covers his ears as the parrot looks on. There’s another where the monkey is sitting alongside the two bumbling pirates – the whole visual is simply hilarious. Obviously the movie isn’t about animals, but it’s definitely a must see, especially if you’re a Johnny Depp fan. And if you’ve already seen the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies, it’s a no brainer – you have to see this one.
I’d be hard pressed to say which of the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies is best. They’re all fun and adventurous, and this one certainly puts on a grand finale to the entire Jack Sparrow story. What I need to do is sit down and watch them all back to back (as if I have that much time on my hands!) and then decide. Even if I don’t find time to do that though I know I’ll be watching all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies many more times. I just can’t get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow!
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is out on DVD and Blu-ray Disc today, just in time for Christmas!
