in Pet Health, Pet Product Recalls

Kasel Associated Industries, of Denver, has recalled its Nature’s Deli Chicken Jerky Dog Treats.  These treats may be contaminated with Salmonella.  This can result in your pets getting sick.  You are also at risk of getting Salmonella poisoning, especially if you didn’t wash your hands soon after handling these products.  The harmful side effects for you and your pets include:

“Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these symptoms after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has any of these signs, please contact your veterinarian.”

Thanks for continuing to be the “go to” place for recalls.

The scope of how many states this affected is really staggering!! I hope people click on the link and make sure their friends are safe.

Our 9 yr old, very healthy, JRT/poodle mix died April 2011 from kidney failure. Vet said she had Fanconi Syndrome, extreamly rare for this dog type. When I Googled the disease, Chicken Jerky Treats came up everywhere. Clio loved her Kingdon Pets chicken jerky treats of which we only gave her maybe 2/wk. I’ve contacted Costco and Kingdon Pets, but they keep selling them. I registered a complaint with the FDA, but have heard nothering (no surprise as it is the govt.). I’ll continue to shout out this message to everyone. I now NEVER buy ANYTHING for my pets that are not Made in the USA.

What if something Made in the USA sources materials or ingredients from China or a dangerous or unreliable source???

Made in the USA does not mean safe!

Yes, you are correct. Bottom line: The FDA – our own government – does not do it’s job!
