Pet product review: Meshidai Elevated Diner for dogs

in Dogs, Product Reviews

I wrote a blog post on Pet Connection about some of the changes I’m making to help Archie out now that he’s getting older. One of the things I’ve done is to get him a raised dish so he doesn’t have to lean over so much to eat or drink.

Coincidentally, at the same time I decided to get the raised dish, someone from In Style Dog asked me to review a raised dog dish, their Meshidai Elevated Diner. What luck. Of course, I jumped at the chance to have Archie try out one of their dishes and am very pleased with it.

Because Archie’s eyes aren’t what they used to be it took him a little while to get used to his food and water being in a different place, but it’s working out really well for him. Archie’s always been a slow eater and drinker, so leaning over a dog dish for a while can be hard on his old bones. With the old dish down on the floor he’d take a break now and then to straighten up, then go back to the bowl. I could tell he wasn’t all that comfortable. With the raised dish, he takes his time and seems much more relaxed.

As far as the dish itself is concerned, I really like it. It’s very sturdy, but not clunky as a result. And because of the no skid cushions on the feet, it stays put on my cement floor. I especially like that the bowl is heavy duty ceramic, and it fits snugly in the stand. No cheap, toxic plastic! The bowl doesn’t wobble and the stand doesn’t move; a problem I’ve had with some other raised dishes in the past.

I’ve had the bowl for about a month now and wanted to see how the wood held up to water before I blogged about it. The In Style Dog website says the wood veneer “is water repellent and wipes clean” and so far I’ve found that to be true. With two dogs (one being a sloppy drinker!) the edges get dripped on quite a bit. But, the water wipes off and looks as good as new.

Right now I only have one of these dishes, but I’m thinking about getting at least one more. Besides doing what I need them to do, they’re nice looking as well. If you want one, In Style Dog has set up a discount code for PetsitUSA readers. Just enter the code bps when ordering and they’ll give you 5% off the regular price. The Meshidai Diners come in small, medium, and large. I have the medium which is 6″ high and is 10″ square

Although I did get a dish at no charge, I’m not making anything off the sale if you buy one through their website.

My mom and I were thinking of getting a new raised feeder for our older pup but she always gets scared when the bowl moves when she’s trying to eat. We’ve only ever used plastic feeders with metal bowls but this sounds sturdy (and waterproof! woof!) so we might give it a try! Thanks for the idea!

If you get one, let me know what you think of it.
