Voting dog gets busted

dog.jpgA Seattle woman, who believes it’s too easy for people to register to vote illegally, used her dog to get her point across.

Jane Balogh completed a voter registration form for her dog Duncan in the spring of 2006, and then in November filled out an absentee ballot for him. Duncan’s ballot likely would have gone through unnoticed had it not been signed with a pawprint. So, now Jane’s in trouble and is facing a $250 fine along with 10 hours of community service.

“I wasn’t trying to do anything fraudulent. I was trying to prove that our system is flawed. So I got myself in trouble,” she says.

Acting Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg says his office “can’t simply look the other way. They say you should let sleeping dogs lie, but you can’t let voting dogs vote.”

shooting the messenger seems to be popular around here. instead of changing the system, they persecute those who expose the flaws.
