When I was asked if I wanted to try out the new FURminator, of course I said yes. I love these tools! I have one for Archie & Lydia already, but the new one has a lever to make it easy to get the hair off the brush. Archie’s hair is pretty fine, so it usually doesn’t get stuck in the FURminator anyway, but the lever pushes it out super easy. I imagine it’ll be especially helpful for coarser hair.
FURminator says their deShedding Tools reduce shedding up to 90 percent. I haven’t done any scientific study to decide if this is true of Archie & Lydia, but they do seem to shed less than when I just use a regular brush. Since they like being brushed I alternate the FURminator with a regular brush, and the shedding is way less than I used to just used the regular brush.
Here’s what the FURminator folks have to say about their tools:
- Remove undercoat and loose hair, the major source of shedding.
- Have a patented stainless steel edge that works without cutting or damaging the topcoat.
- Feature a comfortable ergonomic grip handle.
- Help reduce hairballs and help to prevent matting.
- Remove dander that can become airborne and cause allergic reactions.
- Are made of highest quality materials that are lead-, cadmium- and toxic-free.
FURminator offers tools that have been designed for a pet’s specific hair length, size and lifestyle (MSRP from $34.99 to $72.99).

I have seen these and I wish they had them when I was showing Giant Schnauzers 25 years ago. They would have made life sooooo much easier! I think it would be great for my new Golden Retriever/Sneaky Neighborhood Dog (Rottie?) mix. She has super soft fur and is the first soft-coated dog I’ve had in about 15 years. There is a layer of black fur all over my beige carpet if I don’t vacuum twice a week.
Way to go, Archie! Good job!
I LOVE the FURminator! Good to hear the new version is just as good, if not better!
I use it as well as one of those rake things…. they do a great job
Great video!
