Holiday pet sitting – call your pet sitter today!

pet sitters and holiday pet sittingBelieve it or not, in the world of pet sitting, the holidays are pretty darn close! Many pet sitters are already completely booked for the holidays. It’s not uncommon for people to book their Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s pet care a year in advance. So, if you need pet sitting for the holidays, and haven’t scheduled it yet, you’ll need to do it as soon as you can.

If you already have a relationship with a pet sitter, and need pet care between now and the end of the year, give him or her a call right away! If not, you’ll risk hearing, “I’m sorry, but I”m booked!”

If you’re looking for a pet sitter for the first time, you really need to get busy. You’ll need to  allow for enough time to meet with at least one pet sitter before you hire someone. Since you’re hiring someone to care for your pet and home, you don’t want feel rushed into making a decision that may not be a good fit. Planning early can help.

Choosing a pet sitter is more involved than simply finding someone online or in the phone book and giving them the dates services are required. Before taking on a new client, pet sitters will require an in-home visit – a meet and greet. During the meet and greet the pet sitter will go over the type of care your pets need, have you complete a contract and other paperwork, get your house keys and security codes, and go over fees and payment options. It is also the time when everyone – you, your pets, and your pet sitter – will be able to decide if you’re a good fit for each other. It’s essentially an interview for everybody involved, as well as the time to talk about details.

If you want some help in what to look for in a pet sitter, and a hiring checklist, see the pet owner resources section on our website. You’ll find quite a bit of info to help you hire a pet sitter and how to get yourself and your pet ready for your time away.

This will be my first season of holiday pet sitting and dog walking for new clients and I am excited! I have already picked up regular clients but am open for holidays. I’m sure I will be hit up soon for holiday pet sitting in Roanoke VA soon.

I cannot re-iterate this enough myself. I’ve spoken to some cattery owners and they’re booked out for this and next Christmas (I’m guessing the same for kennels)… This will be my third Christmas I do as a business.

It still amazes me at how many people will leave the care of their pets “last minute”… “last minute” meaning they don’t start booking until November or even a week or two before-hand.

Then they wonder why they have a hard time finding someone or having to pay “higher than normal” prices.
