Dog costume contest. Win a Halloween costume for your dog or cat

Archie, proudly modeling his Halloween costume

PetSmart tells us that more than 13 million families will dress their pets up for Halloween. That’s a lot of pets wandering around in disguise! Will your dog or cat be one of them? If so, here’s your chance to win a costume. PetSmart has offered a cat or dog costume for one of our readers (a reader’s pet, actually!). The person (and pet!) who win, will get to choose their own costume, and PetSmart has many cat and dog Halloween costumes to choose from! Archie (above) and Lydia (below) are modeling a sample of one of the costumes up for grabs.

In addition to the costume we’ll be giving away, here’s what PetSmart is doing to celebrate Halloween:

  • PetSmart’s “Scare Your Way into a PetSmart Commercial” photo contest on Facebook, where one lucky pet will win an appearance in a national television commercial that will air in 2011. Pet parents can enter starting today by visiting www.facebook.com/PetSmart and uploading a photo of their pet decked out in their Halloween best, and the winner, voted on by the Facebook community, will be announced on November 1.
  • PetSmart’s annual in-store Howl-O-Ween event sees pets compete for cutest costumes and parade around the store. It will be held on Saturday, October 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time in participating PetSmart stores around the nation.

So, back to our contest…

To enter (and it doesn’t get much easier than this!) . . .

. . .  post a message below telling us how cute your cat or dog is and why you’d like to win. For a bunus entry, go to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/petsitusa and post a picture of your pet. We’ll take entries until midnight, October 12, and then pick a winner at random on October 13. (No, it’s not a Friday the 13th – wouldn’t that be perfect for the month of October though?)

Ok . . . now it’s up to you – let’s hear your kitty and doggie stories!

UPDATE: Congrats to Walter, our winner! You can see his picture from last Halloween on our Facebook page. He’s going to be one decked-out kitty this year, thanks to his new costume.

Halloween is my favorite holiday. And this will be our first Halloween in our first house, which we bought last November. We always planned on having a Halloween bash once we had enough space for one. We just missed being able to do this last year, so this year will be our first annual Halloween party! They’ll probably scratch my eyes out for this, but I’d really like for my cats to be dressed up at our party this year. 🙂

Oh I think my boy Papi would look smashing in a new Halloween costume! He’s a chiweenie after all and he’s only 10 pounds. Everyone in the park falls in love with him. Plus, he’s always cold and doesn’t mind wearing jackets. You can see a photo of him in his jacket on flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/suerostvold/3818002675/in/set-72157622031488254/

Martin is the guy for the costume! He is a rescue dog with a severe heart condition. We enjoy him every day because we don’t know how much longer we’ll have him. We were told two years ago that he could go any day. 🙁 So each Halloween could be his last. (I know, I’m pulling at your heartstrings now. I assure you it’s on purpose) Mr. Martin is the sweetest dog I know, even though he has bad breath. He doesn’t mind wearing outfits in the fall as long as they aren’t too tight. Martin is body is best described as somewhere between a honey-baked ham and a football. 🙂 Here’s a photo of him convalescing that was taken after one of his heart episodes: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30206687&l=05a3e9c3bb&id=1070814007

My dog Rosie is the love of my life. Would love to get her a new outfit this Halloween. 🙂

A horribly dark night… the trees blow, the leaves fall, the wind howls and something moves in the grass… BOO! Guess it wasn’t the WIND that was howling after all. With a name like Frostbite, you know he’s one bad dog–meteorically speaking, of course. At just over seven pounds this Pomeranian Papillon is a terror! Terribly cute, that is. He’s got a mostly white coat–or is it ghostly white–with a crown of brown, brown ears, and a few spots on his tail. Okay I promise I’m done with the Halloween jokes…OR AM I!? (Jeez talk about terrifying.)

I would love to have an angel costume for my little Snoop. She’s a white Persian, who I call angel. I’ve had her since I was 15 and even though she’s getting up there in age I still dote on her and love her more than anyone on earth.

Walter is my 3 year old Maine Coon cat! He weighs 25 pounds and is truly our furbaby! Last year we tortured him and made him be a girl, so this year it would be awesome to make him something awesome!!

Paco is a cute 9 year old boy. He may be old in dog years, but he’s a little chicken sometimes. He’s afraid of fireworks, scary noises, mailmen, girl scouts and his own shadow at times. So, when I found this costume in the store, I knew it was PERFECT for him. He was a great daddy, too, so the little chick he’s sitting on is very protected. Yes, Paco does LOVE to dress up! He would be honored to win this contest!

Paco and Missy are an iconic pair … the cowboy and indian! They play the part so well. People just love seeing them dressed up for Thanksgiving. They would love to win this contest! Thanks for viewing! Their pictures are posted on the FB page http://www.facebook.com/petsitusa.
