Vet visit #2 in as many days for Tequila

by Therese on January 28, 2010

in My pets, Tequila

I just talked with my vet about an hour ago and she had some unsettling news. Yesterday I took Tequila in for a checkup. The vet said she looked healthy (other than needing to shed some weight), but today the blood work shows another story. One of the levels is extremely elevated, and although there are a few different conditions it could point to, the one that makes the most sense is cancer. (I hate that word!)

The vet’s first step is to repeat the blood test and hope that somehow the results were wrong. If it comes back with the same results Tequila’s in for more blood work, x-rays, and who knows what else. At this point I’m just hoping the repeat blood work will be normal.

We’re off to see the vet again, for the second day in a row.

I hate cancer!  And even the possibility of cancer absolutely SUCKS!

Update: More results from the vet today, Feb 2. Tequila has cancer.

I sure hope you get some good news. After going through Lydia’s “adventures”, you deserve a break.
I’ve always asked for a second blood test if something comes back funky. In every case, the second test came back normal. I hope you have the same luck.

You’re right, cancer sucks!

Thanks for telling me that, Diana! I’m going to hold onto the idea that this repeat test will be normal.

It’s very easy to mis-handle blood. I’ve had dogs diagnosed with leukemia, lupis, and kidney disease from blood tests. A second one was taken, and all was normal.
I know a vet that goes to the dog park. When I was worried about my dog having high liver readings, she said she doesn’t look at the numbers too much, she looks at the animal. The numbers can be a guide, but some animals have odd readings that are normal for them.
I hope the next test is within all the good ranges.

Fingers crossed for little Tequila. Cats are so good at hiding their illnesses. I sure hope this is a false alarm.

We’re all crossing our fingers and paws for Tequila to be okay (and hopefully have normal bloodwork)! Cancer is a horrible disease for people and pets (and has unfortunately affected our family in both ways). Purring for Tequila!

Adding my prayers and best wishes for Tequila and for you too Therese.

May the repeat blood work show an issue easily treated.
