Sick Vick awarded for his “courage”

by Therese on December 24, 2009

in Dogs

Michael Vick, who was convicted for his part in a dog-fighting ring, received the Ed Block Courage Award. At first I thought this was some satire piece, but nope. Sick Vick, the dog killer, has received the Ed Block Courage Award because of everything he’s gone through. Poor guy’s been through a lot in the past few years!

Ok everybody, say it with me . . .

“What the (fill in the blank)?”

The Ed Block Courage Award is given annually to one player from each NFL team that exemplifies a commitment to sportsmanship and courage.

Defensive tackle Rhett Hall won it in 1997 after recovering from life-threatening blood clots. Assistant coach Tommy Brasher received the award in 2001 after battling cancer and Correll Buckhalter in 2003 after missing two seasons with knee injuries. Jerome McDougle won it in 2006 after getting shot in an attempted carjacking. Jon Dorenbos won it last year, 15 years after his father was convicted of murdering his mother.

Each recipient overcame an enormous amount of personal hardship.

And now the award belongs to Michael Vick, who also has overcome a lot. All of it of his own doing.

“I’ve had to overcome more than one single individual can handle,” Vick said at his locker today. “If you asked certain people to walk in my shoes, 95 percent of the people couldn’t do it. It was a situation I put myself in (because of) decisions that I made.”

PhillyBurbs.com has the rest of Vick voted Ed Block Courage Award by teammates

Here’s how I see it  . . .

  • The guy runs a dog-fighting ring, resulting in many dead and injured dogs.
  • The guy gets caught and goes to prison for 18 months.
  • The guy gets out and goes back to playing pro football (and making tons of money).
  • The guy gets an award for “all he’s been through” – things that were his own fault.

Give me a break!

Being able to play pro football again should be “award” enough. Continuing to reward Michael Vick is beyond belief! I don’t know about you, but I was brought up to believe that if I work hard and do the right things, I might get ahead. When did the rules change so that someone like Vick can totally screw up and then be given an award for his “courage”?

And in case you’re wondering about The Ed Block Courage Award, it is “dedicated to improving the lives of neglected children and ending the cycle of abuse.” It doesn’t make sense to me that an organization with concern for abused children would honor someone who’s abusive to animals. In fact, the namesake of the award, Ed Block, believed in the rights of children and spoke out against child abuse. I wonder how someone so passionate about abuse would feel about an award named after him being given to Michael Vick.

It takes a lot of courage to laugh while electrocuting your dog in a swimming pool. *dabs tear* What a hero.

WTF…….excuse me while I go get sick.

This just blows my mind.

If he was volunteering most of his off hours helping abused animals, I’d say he deserves something but I’m afraid I haven’t heard this. He deserves nothing, nada, zero.

Well, what does he also give to the abused and dead who suffered
the at the hands of the one who he gave thisaward to. What about the hundreds of volunteers, trainers, vets who devoted themselves to save and rehabilitate his victims? I am sure Mr Block’s previous recipients were well deserved of his award, but what has Vick done to deserve any award? He wouldn’t even face the survivors of his horrendous acts. He lied about what he did and then got caught. So let this award show children and abusers
just what you can get away with and then be rewarded for. My tears are shed for his victims and the ones not saved. we have 11 rescued pits who will always be with us, for we fear in the wrong hands they might suffer the same fate.

Mr. Block would turn over in his grave. Who or what committee made this decision? They should be held to explain why they reward a money hungry animal slaughterer felon like Michael Vick. This makes me sick. It is a disgrace to the award itself.

As if what he has done is not “bad enough”, he has the audacity to make statements regarding what HE has endured? Really, WTF? I’d like to have the opportunity to ask him if 95% of dogs could endure what his dogs endured! Are we expected to have a pity party for this torturer and murderer? I feel sorry for the other Ed Block Award winners, as this makes their awards seem worthless. This is unbelievable. Animal cruelty is being rewarded. Curse the Eagles! May they never win another game!

this jerk should never been allowed back in the nfl, let alone get any award. the eagles must all have their heads examined for giving him a team to play on, plus giving him an award! he should be thrown out of pro football and thrown right back in jail. he has never shown any remorse for what he’s done to all those pitbulls, but instead refers to all that he’s been through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!poor him, let’s all get our hankies out,NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a Vick fan but he did serve time and I understand through HSUS he is talking to youngsters about the follies of dog-fighting etc.I find it ridiculous he is continuously being hounded but no-one goes after Genocidal maniacs like Bryant and Mçguinty of Ontario,Hinklepooper and Kelley and Nelson of Denver,Pizano and Gallagher of Miami-Dade county who are far more Evil and have murdered far more Family-Pets than Vick, they are still walking free and still Killing.Where is Justice??????

Vick got off light and certainly does not deserve any awards.

This makes me sick….The only award he should get it’s a killer award!!!

Everyone should write to this man or group and gave Vick this award and let them know what you think of Vick getting this award. I still think Vick should get the same treatment he gave his dogs. He will get justice from God sooner or later.

Vick is the classic sociopath – completely narcissistic and completely unable to empathize with his victims, to him he is the victim. I am so tired of hearing him whine about how much this has hurt him. Dear God In Heaven. Giving this prestigious award to this monster is an insult to all the deserving guys who have been given this award in the past. The Ed Block Award for Courage is now a joke.

As if he were the victim? This is shocking to me and I cannot believe his teammates would encourage his actions by awarding him this accolade.
