It’s surgery for my dog Lydia

20080701lydia.jpgLydia’s at the vet’s office. I took Lydia in this morning for surgery.

Last week she was having some problems with her back end – limping a bit and licking quite a bit. Thinking it might be her anal glands, I expressed them. When I did, I felt a growth that didn’t seem right. So, off to the vet we went, and when he examined her, he confirmed it and said it needed to come out. So that’s where she is now, and Archie and I both hate not having her here.

I was hoping she’d be ready to go home in the next hour or so but when I called the vet’s office to check on her they said she’ll be a bit longer. They had to delay her surgery because of some emergencies that came in.

I know she’s in good hands, but boy, do I hate having my dogs undergo surgery! And you know I’m sitting her anxiously waiting for the call from the vet to tell me how everything went.

Of course, secondary to getting her well is testing out our new health insurance. Back in January I signed her and Tequila up on Pet Plan. They’re both on the gold plan, which has a $200 deductible then a 10% copayment. With Lydia’s surgery costing anywhere from about $400 to close to $1,000, having insurance definitely eases my mind. I’ll see how the claims process goes – they say they aim to settle claims in about a week.

Update on Lydia, 11:45 pm. Lydia’s home resting. The vet was able to get the tumor out, along with another that we didn’t know about. Both are being sent to the lab for a biopsy, and we’ll get the results next week. I’m hoping for the best of course.
