20080527dachs.jpgA puppy mill in Rockport, TX has been shut down, leaving 54 dachshunds in need of new homes. Many of them have been brought to central Texas, where rescue workers and foster families are are working to nurse them back to health. Contact Central Texas Dachshund Rescue if you want to help or adopt one of the dogs.

Fifty-four dachshunds were rescued in a puppy mill raid out in Rockport, and now shelters must deal with the difficult task of finding new homes for all of them.

Some of the dogs have been brought to Central Texas, to be nursed back to health with foster families.

With only 30 foster parents and a tight budget, the recent rescue is putting some strain on the rescue organization’s resources.

Some dachshunds are healing from abuse and neglect in Cedar Park, and they’re still shaky on their feet.

“It was a lady who had 54 dogs in a mobile home with no air conditioning and you know dirty facility, dogs in cages.” Margie McKinley said, a foster mom with the Central Texas Dachshund Rescue. She’s caring for four of the dogs.

Here’s the rest.

This story absolutely floored me. I love my dachshund, Zeus, with all my heart. He is my best pal, I don’t have children so he is mine. How can people be so naive???? I was excited to learn about the Central Texas Dachshund Rescue, I plan on donating money as I can and hopefully when my husband returns from deployment be able to rescue one. I am happy for people who have the heart to help and I am sorry that any animal should ever have to go through something like this. Thank you to all the people taking their time to help the little cuties out!

This is so sad but so familiar. I’m fostering three little Chihuahuas who were rescued from a hideous puppy mill in North Carolina that thankfully was shut down by authorities. These little girls were completely unsocialized and terrified of everything at first. It’s just tragic that this is happening on such a large scale throughout our country.
