Introducing Emma and Mazie
(their Mom, Summer, won our birthday contest)

Here's what Summer has to say about her two lovable babies:

After college I was living alone, and without family pets around, for the first time in my life. After a few months I adopted Emma, my English Bulldog. She was 5 years old and we fell in love instantly. She has special needs with skin and food allergies and has had several surgeries on her ear - amazingly doing great after each surgery.

Emma's sister Mazie, a Jack Russell Terrier, came to our home three years ago. I was afraid Emma's ear problems were going to be the end of her and thought I should go ahead and adopt another puppy. Emma was 9 yrs old at that time. Mazie tested my patience for two full years but is now a really good dog and seems to even tend to Emma if she thinks something is bothering her.

I have the best time with my girls! When I'm at home, both dogs follow me around or sit close to me. When I'm away Emma sleeps under a fan while Mazie guards the house and yard.

Congrats, Summer!

Our Pet of the Month honor goes to Mr. Bones. He and his best friend, Kristen, of Mr. Bones & Me Pet Sitting live in Austin, Texas.

Does our next pet of the month live in your home? Let us know! Email a picture of your pet, and be sure to tell us a little bit about him or her.

Dear Site Hound,
I recently adopted a canary and now I know why he was up for adoption…he won't sing! Can you point me to a site that might have some helpful tips and tricks to get him to sing?
Susan - Las Vegas, NV

Dear Susan,
Your little jailbird refuses to sing, eh? Check out Robirda Online, where you'll get some pointers to convince your feathered friend to open his beak and sing. You'll learn the types of things that can deter a canary from singing and which sex is most likely to perform the trademark canary trills and warbles. You'll also find general info on housing, feeding, breeding, socialization, downloadable eBooks, and an active message board where you can connect with other canary owners. And, if you think your little guy needs a little help by hearing what a canary should sound like, you can buy him a sing-a-long CD, featuring "happy, singing canaries!"

Let your pet sitter know how to contact you BEFORE you leave:

Before you leave home, either call or email your pet sitter with information on how you can be contacted while you're away. Don't be tempted to leave your contact info inside your home, even if it is in a convenient place. If something came up and your pet sitter was unable to get into your home on the very first visit, the information would be useless!
