First Diamond recalls food, then suspend delivery from one plant, and now they have some key job openings.
The Diamond Pet Food recalls
Diamond has have recalled three foods in recent weeks. These include Diamond Puppy Formula, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula, and Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice Formula. See the Diamond Pet Food recall website for more information.
Diamond stops shipment of pet food
Diamond has stopped shipping pet food from their South Carolina plant. When I called this afternoon to confirm this is still the case, I was told that the plant is still not shipping from this location. The other two plants, I was told, are still in production and shipping food.
Diamond posts jobs for Quality Control Technicians
Now they have job openings for quality control technicians at all three of their manufacturing plants. They are the only jobs listed on the Diamond Pet Food Jobs website. It would lead one to think that perhaps their current (or former?) quality control technicians may not be implementing the Diamond Pet Food 151 Quality Checks appropriately. The job openings and recent problems may or may not be related, but it’s quite interesting it’s all happening at the same time.
Here’s how the job descriptions read:
Job Title: Quality Control Technician
Job Number: QCT=03
Department: Production
Location: Gaston, SC
Description:
- Must be capable of conducting various tests for incoming ingredients, including sieve, NIR, moisture, and mycotoxin testing.
- Must have interpersonal and communication skills with plant personnel and management

So, what’s up with Diamond? Whatever it is, I don’t think we’re getting the whole story. If you’re wondering what other pet foods Diamond Pet Foods manufactures, see this post. If I were feeding anything by Diamond, I’d be finding a new food pronto.

Lovely! All done in secret probably except for you that is, LOL. Nice job! Keep us informed, we need to know this stuff.
Here’s another interesting aspect , the food from the SC plant that was being held at the distributors is being shipped again. Not back to Diamond either. It’s available for stores ordering new food. Was in the local indy pet food store yesterday & she was told this on Wednesday. She is not reordering any more Diamond products out of disgust for the apparent lies & will not return what she has out of fear that it will simply get sent to another store. So all her Diamond products are grouped together with a large warning sign & she won’t sell them.
That’s really interesting. I was told yesterday that the are not shipping anything from the SC plant.
The CDC is now reporting human illness from contact with the food produced in that plant. (I found this info on Susan’s website)

Looks like they have likely known there was a problem for a long time and were hoping they could keep it quiet. Why does it have to take people getting sick to get attention to these issues? And why isn’t better QC going on before the product ever leaves the plant? I really don’t understand how manufacturers don’t run adequate tests before shipping. Why does a food with samonella or too much vitamin D get shipped?
And I have been meaning to thank Therese for reporting the recalls on food that receives little attention – such as the recent recalls on bird, hamster and fish food. It is as concerning to me that these foods have issues as the cat and dog foods do. Thanks for helping us stay informed and work towards safe pet food for all pets!
