Iams sends owner of dead cat $2 coupon for food

in Random Thoughts

It seems that a Connecticut woman wrote to Iams to let them know she thought their food killed her cat. In response she got form letters from Iams and P&G, and a $2 coupon for more pet food from Iams…

Sushi, a 13-year-old cat with an apricot slash of fur on her head, began refusing to eat her wet cat food or drink in February, according to owner Judy Brendle. Sushi, notoriously lethargic even for a feline, became even more listless, the 51-year-old Voluntown woman said.

Within a day, Sushi was dead.

“About a week later, I saw the articles about the tainted pet food,” Brendle said. “So, I sent a letter to IAMS letting them know I thought they killed my cat and I would not be purchasing their product ever again.”

[...]

The IAMS letter thanks Brendle for bringing her concerns to the company’s attention and suggests she call the Consumer Relations Center for any further discussion.

The letter further states, “…we want to make this right with either a refund or product replacement.”

A coupon for $2 off any IAMS product was also included.

The P&G letter invites Brendle and her pet, “…to try IAMS!” and lists the benefits of the company’s product.

Brendle said attempted to contact IAMS via their hotline but was unable to connect with a representative.

IAMS could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

“I never wanted anything from IAMS,” Brendle said. “I just wanted them to know I had lost trust in them and that they broke my heart.”

Baruch, for the record, eats only dry food.

Read the rest at the Norwich Bulletin.

A note to Iams, and the person who sent those lame form letters out:

Did you even take the time to read Judy Brendie’s letter? Her cat died! How on earth is sending her a coupon for $2 for more of the stuff that killed her cat going to make things right? Put yourself in her place…you love your cat…she’s a cherished member of the family…you feed her something you think is going to keep her healthy and happy but it KILLS her! Would a $2 coupon make you say, “Ahhh…that company really does care!”

Come on…it’s not like we’re talking about a broken lamp or microwave…we’re talking about a living, breathing cherished family member! Get a clue and show some real concern rather than sending out lame form letters and coupons. I know you, whoever you are, are just a company drone doing what you’re told, but you could rock the boat a little bit and let the honchos know those lame letters aren’t cutting it!

Having lost our beloved Hemingway Cat Whiskers to the contaminated pet food I can not imagine the company that killed my cat sending me a coupon for more of their pet food.

I still feel guilty for feeding Whiskers contaminated food. I still miss him and I still cry for him.

How can anyone be so heartless that they think that a $2 coupon can make up for the death of a beloved friend.

I really hope these companies that put profit before pets can be charged with animal cruelty because it seems to me that selling pet food contaminated with melamine constitutes cruelty both to the pets who ate the food and became ill and died and their owners who watched them suffer.

These companeis are such a joke! How the heck can you even send that letter and coupon to the poor lady. Obviously there are people working for IAMS who don’t understand what pet ownership is all about and could care less about the customers.

This line really gets me “…we want to make this right with either a refund or product replacement.” How about making it right by not killing any more pets????? Can you do that?

That goes far beyond stupidity and insensitivity. These dog food companies with their fuzzy marketing need to be hit in the pocketbook by all pet owners.
