I wish they’d call this what it is – a recall. I guess they’ve gotten wise to us though and know we’re on the lookout for pet food recalls!
See Nutro for more info.

So funny how pet food companies don’t like to use the word “recall” YET according to Encarta at http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_1861699651/recall.html, a recall is (transitive verb) “to order something or somebody to come back or be sent back” or (noun) “request to return product: a request by a manufacturer to return a product because of a fault or contamination”
Sounds like a RECALL to me
Aloha Please be aware that Wysong dog food is supposed to be recalling for the MOLD – Aflatoxin !!! My purebred Doberman died last week from this !!!! Ido not see alot of warnings on net – Beware julie Oct. 8th 2009
Julie,
Tks for the heads up.
Julie,
I’m very sorry about your dog. Could you please provide any additional info?
I just got a great deal at PETCO on a lot of adult and puppy food by Nutro. They had it discounted to $2 for Nutro and $3 for Purina One. I bought several bags. However, after reading about the recall, I may return it. It may have been too cheap to be true. But if the UPC and recall dates match, shouldn’t Petco be punished for knowlingly selling defective food?!
Folks, if your still feeding Nutro it’s time to wiseup. Nutro since they were purchased by Marrs can’t be trusted and the ingredients and processing are very suspect. All you have to do is look at the consumer complaints on line to know something is up.
Julie, is it just one variety or all? (I’m assuming if something like corn were the culprit all of the pet foods except the raw varieties would be recalled.)
How long ago did you buy yours and from where?
Definitely plan on calling them in the morning. Wish me luck.
So far my girl is showing no symptoms. (Bought ours two weeks ago right at the factory. – Maintenance 8lb. 32lb box. – Not at home right now to check the other numbers.)
From Twitter user, Homerwills:
“Wysong recalls dog food for excess moisture and mold. From Wysong’s site: http://tinyurl.com/yffwrxe. PLS RT PLS RT”
If anyone is active on Twitter, please spread the word.
Many thanks to The Pet Food List for notifying subscribers.
Julie…I am so sorry for your loss…I hope you have contacted the FDA rep for your area…if you need to know who to call please ask here—lots of posters with good contacts…
Crystal,
Pet food companies want to minimize any potential damage to their brand.
Please don’t assume a pet food company really knows which ingredient was used in which batch of food, or that they would make such information public.
Don’t take chances – change food right away.
Julie,
I’m so sorry to hear about your dog.
When I saw your message I contacted Wysong, and got the info about the recall. You can find it here: http://petsitusa.com/blog/?p=2537
Julie, I would also like to say how sad it is to read about the loss of your dear dog, I know how hard this is for you. I, too, hope you were able to contact FDA to report it. They need to hear directly from people when their pets get sick or die from pet food. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Therese, we cant thank you enough for keeping us clued in as to what is going on with pet food brands. After losing a pet in 2007, I am on constant look-out for problems. Sadly, I know we cant depend on the companies to inform us. Im not sure people that werent affected in 2007 can understand how awful it feels to learn that one’s pet has died as a result of food we trusted and fed.
I’M A BREEDERAND DOG TRAINER FOR 40 YEARS AND I NEED TO FIND A PET FOOD THAT WON’T KILL MY DOGS. ANOTHER ONE OF MY DOGS DIED FROM NUTRO A YEAR OR SO AGO. I ‘M FEELDING LARGE PUPPY LAMB AND RICE MEDIUM BAG SO IS IT ON RECALL I LIVE IN FLORIDA THANK YOU CWINDSDOBE@YAOO.COM
Just fyi—–since Mars purchased Nutro things have not changed. Nutro is a wonderful brand and is now owned by a quality family who cares about what they make. There hasnt been any issues with feeding my pets-if anything the coat looks wonderful and im happy its a natural brand that doesnt have additives.Spend more time researching your facts-sounds to me you have too much time trying to bash a brand you know nothing about
My wife and I have a 2 1/2 yr. old black lab that eats and loves Nutro Ultra,
we also have 3 cats from 14 wks. to 11 yrs. that eat and love Nutro Max Cat and Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care. All 4 are healthy and happy !
Nothing has changed since Mars bought Nutro !
wish we could still buy nuto in the uk. wonderful product and have used for over 10years with great results
I had three dogs that were eating Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Meal formula. They all died from kidney and liver failure. I am outraged that the pet food industry is so careless and focused on profits that they don’t care about the quality of food they are selling. Liver and kidney failure can sneak up on you and you don’t know until it’s too late. I will never feed any of this garbage they call “food” ever again to my pets. I am heartbroken that my babies suffered and lost their lives over bad dog food!! It makes me sick.
We feed our puppy this Nutro Puppy Ultra here in Alaska. And lo–and-behold I ended up buying a bag that contained a piece of that plastic that were only supposed to be in certain States. They sure did not mention Alaska.
I complained to the company, I documented it with pictures of the plastic and me removing the UPC from the bag, they sent me an envelope to send the “Chunk” of plastic back to them. Course they were not worried about my pet I did explain to Diane that I did remove some small pieces as well. I wanted to post the pictures-I will if I do not hear back from them. Maybe even run a local ad in the news paper here if they do not assure me that this will not happen again.
Now I must Sift through his food before feeding him??? 2/082010
