NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has conditionally reinstated Michael Vick. He can play football again if he can find a team that wants him.
NEW YORK — Michael Vick has been conditionally reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Vick can participate without delay in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games — if he can find a team that will sign him.
Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities other than games, but could play as soon as October.
Goodell called a news conference for late Monday afternoon.
Sure, I think he should be able to work again. But, I think a pretty hefty chunk of his pay should go to:
- Supporting (for life) each and every dog that made it out of Bad Newz Kennels alive
- Paying back the government (that would be us) every cent that was spent on housing, feeding, and clothing him while he was in jail
- Setting up a fund to rehabilitate and take care of other dogs that are caught up in dogfighting rings

Those are FABULOUS ideas!!
This is the BEST idea I’ve heard! I totally agree.
I couldn’t agree with you more, Therese. In fact, you’re so good at taking hold of an idea and following it all the way, I encourage you to turn your suggestions into a nationwide initiative.
I have to agree with your ideas! But I’m saddened by the fact that they reinstated him.
I agree with those ideas, wholeheartedly.
Also, if he wasn’t reinstated, and he wasn’t able to work again he would just become an even bigger burden on our society, thus costing us even more money…..just like other criminals do. However, having a high-salaried job would allow him to pay back his obligations as Therese suggests…if that is in fact what his conscience, or other authorities tell him to do.
We’ll see.
I love your site and your ideas — though I must admit that I see Vick as a sociopath–and by definition, they don’t have a conscience, they can’t feel remorse, and they don’t stop their behavior unless forced to do so.
That we’re subjected to hearing about him constantly is another form of abuse, IMHO. He should not be re-instated, and given a high profile, high prestige job in the NFL. That’s just the typical wrist-slap that professional athletes expect. I signed the HSUS petition, and hope that similar protests by citizens have an effect.
With all that said, I treasure this site and others that demonstrate how many people love and value their animal companions. It puts light out into the world, and we need that, especially when the dark forces show up in the news like this.
