Today’s update on numbers from Pet Connection:
The most recent numbers from our Pet Connection database: (3/31 8:45 p.m. PT): 2,797 deceased pets (1,546 cats and 1,251 dogs). Remember, these are self-reported numbers, but there is now a widespread acknowledgement that hundreds if not thousands of pets have been made ill or killed by one of the recalled products.
Pet Connection has futher updates so be sure to visit their blog today, too.
And as always, I encourage everyone to visit vetcetera and howl911 for even more updates.

Menu Foods, inc Streetsville, Ontario, Canada is one of the
petfood makers (and they aren’t telling us who the other 2 mystery manufacturers are), with a production facility in Emporia, Kansas, is a private-label pet food manufacturer, that markets nationwide by many
pet food retailers including Ahold USA Inc., Kroger Company, Safeway, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., PetSmart, Inc., and Pet Valu, Inc.
Walmart seems to have its products made by several manufacturers. I’ve only seen one for Costco so far and that is Doane or rather Mars, Inc. (MasterFoods USA) since it was bought.
I’m resubmitting it since I didn’t see it come up the first time. If this does repeat… forgive me, the site glitched.
Yesterday our dog began showing signs of weakness in the legs throughout the day until finally yesterday evening her legs were completely paralyzed.
When we took her to the vet late last night they could find nothing wrong with her except to say that she had a weak spine and would probably need an operation to regain ability to walk again. This is her second day being totally paralyzed in her hind legs, which has been devistating to our family. There is no apparent cause of the paralysis.
Tonight while look in on the internet for related stories, I found information about the dog food recalls. Our dog, Kali, never ate any of the foods that received all of the media attention earlier this year. But when I read the symptoms of Botulism caused by other dog food products, they mirrored Kali’s symptoms so closely (paralysis, labored breathing) I wanted to see if there was anyone who was feeding their pet Cesar Canine Cuisine that had a similar experience.
I am currently planning to take the food in to have it tested to save anyone from this possible fate, if in fact it is the dog food.
Ed, I wish you and Kali all the best. I certainly hope the vets are able to find out the the cause of her problems and get her moving again.
Please be sure to come back and let us know what the test results show.
