Tequila’s not feeling well today, and with good reason! She got cut on in multiple places today. She had a dental appointment, which resulted in having four teeth removed. Last year about this time she was diagnosed with feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions (aka FORL). Some of her other teeth dissolved to nothing, and the few she has left will likely be gone in the not to distant future too.
So, she’s got a pretty sore mouth right now.
But that’s not all.
A couple nights ago Tequila was cuddled up next to me and as I petted her I found a lump on her side. My heart sank and of course the first thing I thought of was cancer. I moved her around and felt again, hoping it was just the way she was laying. No such luck. It was a lump, and a good sized one at that. And the thing is, It came up pretty quickly, too. The vet saw her just a couple weeks ago for her yearly check up and it wasn’t there then.
I already had an appointment for today for her to get her teeth taken care of, so first thing yesterday I called to make sure they could do the teeth and the lump at the same time. I really didn’t want her to have to go through the whole animal hospital ordeal twice.
Thankfully the vet was able to do the teeth and the lump today, rather than having to reschedule. First was the dental, then came the lumpectomy. Poor kitty! She’s got a pretty big slice on her side, and is walking very carefully…when she walks. Right now she’s curled up under her favorite blanket.
The tissue has been sent off for testing and now I wait.
I hate waiting…especially for something like this!
Chances are I’ll get good news sometime next week, and that’s what I’m banking on. The thing is, after going through cancer treatments with Lydia, I no longer live that “it’ll never happen to my pets” delusion. I know for a fact that cancer can, and does, happen…and it happens when we least expect it. No, I’m not driving myself nuts obsessing over the possiblility, but I am being realistic. I know the likelihood is that it’s nothing, but I’m very well aware that it could be something I’d rather not deal with. Time will tell…
And, FYI Lydia’s doing great! We’ll see her oncologist next week and will have an update then.

All of you have been through a tough day; hoping all goes well, and you can get some sleep tonight.
Harmony,
Janet
Thanks, Janet. It has been a long day! I’m going to curl up with a good book and relax.
Oh no! Well, I do hope it’s nothing.. cats amaze me.. they are so stoic!
I hope she recovers well (and quickly) and that everything comes back fine.
PS: Glad to hear Lydia is doing well!
Thanks, SCDL! From the way she’s acting right now, you’d never know she was cut on just a few days ago. She’s on my desk between me and the keyboard trying to convince to feed her dinner…again!
