Rosie is a pit bull from Must Love Dog’s NW. She is a rescue, which is the only way we will ever adopt a dog. She is playful, funny and a joy to have as a pet. She has truly become part of our family since our adoption in August. She follows us around the house not wanting to be apart from us.
She recently was diagnosed with mast cell carcinoma, and required surgery and chemo. She has a doggy oncologist who loves her as much as we do, so she is in good hands. Rosie’s prognosis is very good at this time.
Rosie was named after the Bruce Springsteen song, Rosalita.
Daisy is a six year old corgi mix. I got her from my sister and brother-in-law. They couldn’t keep her because her long hair was giving my sister allergy problems. Daisy sheds a LOT but I’ve gotten used to having dog fur on everything I own.
She’s the perfect dog for me. If I’m having a bad day and curl up in bed she’ll lie next to me the entire time I’m in bed. I can’t imagine my life without her.
I’ve got three dogs – Tai (a lab-chow mix), Lola (a catahoula mix) and Pearl (pit bull and something small mix). They are all rescued dogs and quite characters! Lola can climb a fence, is madly in love with the frisbee and jumps to catch it. Pearl has to try to get the frisbee from Lola and gets super frustrated when she can’t get it. Pearl also is the smallest in the house and takes up the most room on the bed, sleeping right in the very center. Tai keeps everyone in line. I wouldn’t trade them for anything!
I have two boxers (Dozer & Harley) and a cat (Roxy). They are all equally crazy & fun! Dozer loves everyone he meets, Harley is afraid of just about everyone she meets and Roxy could care less!
Astrid is a (almost) 4 year old rottie/mix adopted from the Santa Cruz Humane Society in Nogales, AZ. She passed her AKC Canine Good Citizen test on Oct. 4th 2008 and the following month passed her Therapy Dog Inc. test and has completed her first visitation at a nursing home. Our message is always ‘Adopt, don’t shop’.
Love getting up and reading your newletter every morning.
Thank you for all your hard work.
It is appreciated.
Stacie
I have many pets, but my favorite is my cat Junior. He is my shadow when I feed the horses. Junior will follow me to the barn. Once there, I get out 2 bales of hay. I carry one for a distance, sit it down, go back and get the other bale and carry it to where I sat the first one down. I repeat this over and over till I get to the horses, as I’m not strong enough to carry them all the way w/o stopping to rest (I can’t afford a 4wheeler and my dolly broke….asking for Santa to bring me another…LOL). When I pick up the first bale of hay, Junior is usually already standing on it. He then ‘rides’ the bale of hay to my first stop. The bale goes up and down with the motion of my body. Junior hangs on for dear life…LOL. It’s almost as if he’s riding his own roller coaster. Sometimes, he’ll actually try to grab the loose pieces of hay that are swaying as I walk. When I sit it down and go back for the other bale, he’s already there waiting on his next ride. If I happen to beat him to it and am carrying it, I’ll stop walking and he will jump all the way up on top of it. When I had the dolly, he’d ride the hay I was carrying on it. He’s done this now for maybe 3 or 4 years.
Oh what a great giveaway!
We have 2 Mini Aussies. Dewey just turned one last month and Frosty came to live with us last Monday – he is 4 months old It’s been so much fun getting to know him and introducing him to Dewey. They seem to be best friends already.
Hi, we’re the Martin clan from Nebraska and we’d love to win a prize! My name is Libby and I’m a short hair tri-color Border Collie . My Mom and Dad told me about your funny name for your BC who is the Play Police…now I am the play police at our house and boy, do I do a great job of keeping my 4 brothers and 1 sister in line. Here, I’ll introduce them:
Andy is a shelter rescue and everyone’s favorite but that’s ok. He is a Shephard/Spaniel mix and loves to sit on my Mom’s lap.
Charlie is a shelter rescue and his dog Mom died when he was 2 weeks old. He still loves to suck on my Mom’s arm and his stuffed baby. Charlie is a really smart BC/Aust Shep/Cattle Dog mix and he’s the big athlete in the family. He does flips and twists with the Frisbee!
Gracie is my silly sister and I don’t really like her but I put up with her. She has nasty gas because she eats stuff she shouldn’t. My Mom and Dad have to light candles sometimes when we are all in the living room. She is not very refined. Gracie is a big black Lab and maybe Weimeraner mix. My Dad found her running down the highway. Everybody else really likes her!
Jack is a short hair b/w BC that adopted us. He was a gypsy dog and now sleeps on the sofa! He is pretty cool to have around. He knows lots of commands and has shown me how to be careful of the horse. He brought home a big deer bone this week and has been sharing it with me. My Mom was really grossed out but Jack said that is how he lived on his own before he chose us.
Riley is the baby of the family and the biggest of us all. He weighs 85 lbs and is a Golden Retreiver. My Mom found him at this nasty pet store so she rescued him out of there. He isn’t a puppy mill puppy but from a farm that couldn’t place all of the puppies and he was the last one picked. He is a really great brother and I make faces at him just to keep him in line but deep down, I love him.
Well, we also have 4 cats. Two inside, Casey and Bonnie and two barn cats, Opie and Oliver. I don’t like Bonnie and make faces at her every chance I get. I get into trouble for doing it but it’s worth it!!
My Mom has a horse named Snap and I make faces at him too, from the other side of the fence. I like him but I just have to keep up my image you know. He is a Palomino and he likes to play fun games with my mom and splash his face in his water tank.
This was kind of long since there are 11 of us here at the Martin home. I hope you had fun meeting usJ Libby Martin
I have a spoiled Black lab named Seuz. He is our boy! He loves to swim and play in the snow! he has his own chair to watch TV and he is always by my side when I am sick! love him!
When I lost my Golden Joshua last Jan. to cancer I wasn’t sure I could handle another dog, much less a puppy. I have physical limitations due to a car accident a few years ago. Joshua was not only my very best friend but he helped me with my moblity problems. With the encouragement of a couple of very good friends I started looking for a Golden to adopt. After looking for a few weeks and not finding any thing I was ready to give up, but my friends kept looking and sending me pictures. In Feb. I was taking one last look at petfinder before giving up and there in the classified adds was my sweet Samual. After exchanging e-mails and pictures, I decided to adopt Sam and came to live with me a few days later. It has been a challenge to raise a puppy, but Sam is so smart and sweet it really was a joy to train him. I was able to work around my limitations Sam is going to start therapy dog school after the first of the year, and hopefully work in the childrens reading program. Sam was a year old in Nov. and has grown into a beautiful dog with a huge loving heart. I have so blessed to share my life with him and looking forward to all the wonderful years ahead.
OOOOH, Love holiday giveaways! I’d like any of those things to give as gifts this season. Most of them are on the top of people’s wish lists at work
Hmmmm, I have 5 pets. 2 cats, a cockatiel, a hamster, and a fish. Spooky, Emma, Stormy, Hammy, and Fishy respectively. They all have their special quirks and qualities and my life would be much less rewarding without them!
Good holiday prizes, Therese. As you know, I have two adopted dogs which are of questionable origin. Max is about 60 lbs., around 5 and looks a bit like an Aussie except he’s black mostly, and has a lot of hair! Oh, how I could use the furminator! (Love that name). Sadie is 7 or 8 yrs young and was adopted from Town Lake Animal Shelter when she was around 1 yr old. She was on her last day at the shelter, so I got her just in time. She is the most beloved companion. Wonderful temperment, smart as a whip and loves to run out in the park. Both dogs love to wander through the creek, chase tennis balls and generally love their people!
Outside of barking too much, they are the best! I haven’t even had any health problems with either of them. They are fabulous mixed-breed dogs who both have way too much hair that sheds constantly. Sigh….between them and the cats…oh yeah, I have 5 adopted kitties as well; Bitsy, Jack, Jade, Pepper, and Keeley. Happy Holidays to all the pets and their people!!
Woo-hoo! Donut is 100% mutt. She’s about 4 1/2 right now, and we think there is some Chow in her since her tail is so curly.
Donut has developed a weird habit of crying instead of barking. If she wants to go outside, she cries. If she wants to come back inside, she cried. It’s unsettling at first, because it sounds so pitiful. She loves being around people, but isn’t a cuddler. I’ve had other dogs that have to be touching you all the time. Donut wants to be near you, but likes to have her space as well.
Happy holidays!
Hi!
I have five animals: two rescue, gorgeous black panthers, uh, cats (Rex & Bobbi) and three bunnies: Vaska, Barsik, and Jack. I’d like to brag about Vaska. He was born in Moscow, Russia almost TEN years ago! He’s traveled with me from Russia, to LA (where he met Barsik) and now to Washington, D.C. (where he met Jack). Vaska is three pounds of pure, positive spirit and has such a will to live. He resembles a Siamese cat with long ears, a cotton tail, and a white triangle note. Other than the lottery for best rescue mom (ha), he’s never won anything. Love your site!
Hi……..my name is Miss Hannah Sue & I’m a 3-yr old Chocolate Lab. Humommie calls me Han or Hannie but when I hear the whole name, I know I’m in deep poo-poo!
I was living in a yukky backyard when humommie came to meet me. Next thing I knew I was in a clean place with a real honest to goodness bed all for me. I get yummy home cooked meals & fresh water to drink……so I try to be a very good girl to say thank you. Humommie says “good girl” a lot so I guess I’m doing things right.
I love the big bipeds that look like humommie & other four legged creatures like me. I try to get along with everyone. I meet a lot of people so humommie calls me a social butterfly. Not sure what that is.
I would like to win a present for humommie to thank her for being a good mommie.
Thank you & a very Merry Christmas to you & Lydia. Kisses to Lydia from me…….
Hi, My dogs name is “Ralphy” and he is a Bichon Poo. He is a good little boy who loves everybody. His favorite things are riding in the car, popsicles, and getting to meet other dogs. He also loves squeeky toys.
Hi PetSitUsa!
My boy is Mr. Martin. He’s a dachshund that we rescued through Central Texas Dachshund Rescue. He’s very bouncy when he walks and he dances in the kitchen before meals. He’s quite entertaining and reminds us of a cartoon character most of the time. Our boy LOVES the water! He barks like crazy and will swim forever if you let him. In the summer he goes swimming in our neighbor’s pool almost every day. He’s also an excellent diver. See the photo below:
http://twitpic.com/q0gk
We love Martin! He’s our crazy swimming dachshund!
My big guy is Apollo. Apollo is a lab hound mix who was found living beside a dumpster with his brothers and sisters. This was in Virginia. He was picked up by the people from the South Side SPCA where he was then slated for death in the gas chamber. The very great people over at the Sterling Animal Shelter out here in Sterling Ma. Back 5 years ago they would call them Rebound Hounds. We searched for over a year for the right puppy to bring home. We found Apollo on the internet in a big family picture. I remember crawling into the cage with him and his brother who was twice his size. Apollo looked very sick and it pulled on my heart strings, so I picked him up and rolled him over and he just laid there content and happy kissing my hand. We brought him home, sick or not sick. He slept for the 2 hours it took us to get back to the house. He is just one happy puppy. Now 5 years later he is a lover, swimmer, runner, player, and the biggest doof you would ever meet. Well I can’t forget how much of a klutz he is neither. Currently he is wearing a boot over his left from paw because he stepped on something while outside playing. What a trooper. But staying with the holiday season I will leave you with a video of him singing with his favorite holiday friends.

Hi Theresse – As you know I have 2 crazy Dachshunds, Austin and Beemer. I will never forge the day I got my Beemer. I was looking on Yahoo pets for a Dachshund. I found one and drove all the way from Los Angeles to Lake Elsinore to get him. The lady took me in the backyard and there were 4 Dachshund puppies running around. Beemer came right up to me and sat on my foot and proceeded to urinate all over it. It was at that moment that I knew this was the dog for me. Beemer is my 4 legged soul mate and as I write this eyes are getting watery. I don’t know why that is. Perhaps the thought of how much I love makes me get me teary eyed. He has taught me the meaning of unconditional love, trust and acceptance. He has taught me to be a better pet owner. We’ve come a long way from the days of eating Science Diet to raw meat and chicken necks.
Austin is my other Dachshund and he is so very special to me too. He’s a little more intense and high strung than Beemer. He is my little angel and he is fiercely protective of us to the point of being brash. He loves nothing more than to sit on my lap and go to sleep. He is my “forever puppy” since he has a puppy face despite the fact that he’s 7 years old.
Until this past Saturday I also had Max. Max was our foster Dachshund from the Central Texas Dachshund Rescue. Max came to us on September 12th in terrible shape – badly malnourished and abused by his prior owner (forced to sleep outside in the dirt for 7 years – no affection). When I picked him up from the vet’s office, I cried all the way home because I was so upset and horrified that anyone could treat such a beautiful animal in such a way. I could show you his “before” picture but it would make you uncomfortable…. he was so skinny. We nursed Max back to health and he gained over 6 pounds. He was just adopted by a wonderful family, but we are still very sad that he’s no longer with us. He had a profound impact on our household and we feel honored to have been chosen to rehabilitate him.
We plan on getting another foster Dachshund within a week or so. I have to tell you Austin and Beemer are absolutely amazing when it comes to the dogs we foster. They are completely accepting of the foster and welcome them into our pack. If only more people were as accepting, loving, thoughtful and kind as Beemer and Austin, this world would be a better place.
Check out my Flickr pictures and you will see hundreds of pictures of Beemer and Austin as well as our Foster dogs.

My “son” is Jack, a chihuahua/dachshund hybrid (because he’s better than both breeds, lol). We adopted him from a shelter in El Paso almost 3 years ago now and he still looks like the cute little puppy we adopted then. It’s funny because he still looks like a puppy so I got my wish for the eternal puppy
My husband and I love that little dog so much, he is spoiled rotten but he brings so much love and joy into our lives with his unconditional warmth, funny actions he does and all the love and playtime he gives. He is the light in our lives that really completes our family, people laugh when we call him our son but he is the best, funniest, most lovable, caring, energetic son anyone could ever have.
Jack does this funny thing when he wants to play or is excited he runs so fast his little paddle feet don’t go anywhere on the linoleum floors, or he’ll slide into a wall trying to run so fast. You know hes happy when does his paddle foot run flinging his front paws high in the air before pounding them down again.
I just cant imagine not having adopting him because we would be without our Jack.
I live in north TX with 4 boys, their dad & 13 dogs and 9 cats.. 11 of the dogs are still puppies, 10 are 7 weeks old and 1 is 6 months old. The older 2 dogs are the 10 puppies’ momma and an oldlady doggie we found wandering in an empty parking lot in 2006… My kids found the puppies’ momma wandering about the neighborhood near our property in early October, we started feeding her & she gave birth under our house in the middle of October… we brought them in (it was supposed to be cold that night) and it’s been quite a wild ride! We’ll be rehoming some of the puppies & keeping one or two of them (deciding which is TOUGH! Everyone has a different opinion around here!) The 6 month old puppy was a puppy we adopted from a family who rescued her mom, who had been dumped on their property… they originally thought her mom was a puppy & next thing they know, she’s having puppies.
Goldie, the oldladydoggie is part chow… we figured that only because she has a pretty purple tongue (okay, black, but it looks purple/blue to me… she’s part something else with long hair & an awesome tail, weighs between 23-30 lbs depending on how much cat food gets knocked over…30 is too much for her, 25-26 is just right)
Pixel (6mo old) is part german shepherd and not sure what else she might be…around 40 lbs… I’m guessing she’s part retriever since she likes to fetch, but who knows & who cares, she’s a doll, she’s funny, sometimes a little too hyper, but she may grow out of some of that yet!
Theresa is a blue tick coonhound & her puppies look like catahoulas except for the 2 black & tan ones… photos are on my flickr site here:
http://flickr.com/photos/9283101@N06/
Theresa told me her name within 10 minutes of meeting her. I won’t argue with that since it took us over a month to decide on Pixel’s name! (My youngest wanted to name her Saphira, but I see now that wouldn’t have fit her, but it fits one of the puppies just fine!)
We need to upload more photos… hopefully in the next couple of days!
We’ll submit our entry this way, too!
Can we enter your contest by responding to this email?
Amy and Alexander, our two five-year-old rescue kitties, totally dominate our life. Alexander is a grey tiger, very sweet but also skittish from being abused as a small kitten before his foster mom rescued him. He’s a literary cat who’s working on his autobiography, which is a tale of determination and perseverance and in the pursuit of knowing what he wanted, a 100% mama. His sister Amy, adopted at the same time, was a feral kitten who always knew she’s special. She’s a delightful, curious munchkin and perennial kitten who’s always into everything. We’re so attached to them that we just bought a larger boat so they could come with us to our favorite retreat. Alexander is now officially Admiral of the Fleet, and Amy is Princess of the Fleet (though we all really know she’s Empress of All She Surveys)! We remain extremely devoted to their rescue organization, the Spay & Neuter Action Project, which operates two Neuter Scooters, converted buses fully equipped as veterinary hospitals, used for low-cost spaying and neutering in low-income communities in the San Diego region.
We’d love for them to win a howliday prize! And we love your blog, which we’ve followed since the pet food recall. You do such wonderful work! Thanks!
I live in Central Texas with my 3yr old little mutt, Kaipo. From what we can figure out, he’s rat terrier and chiuchaua. We swear that sometimes he channels deer, dingos, and meercats with his strange behavior. All that said, he is such a sweet loving dog. He loves to snuggle and when you’re feeling down, he comes by you and lays by you. It’s great. This dog is like my child. When my roommate’s german shepard attacked him a few months ago, I freaked like a mother would. He had a puncture in his throat and on his head so i made a mad dash to the vet. All is well now and he is back to his normal self. He absolutely love rawhide and playing chase with the neighbors dogs separated by a wooden fence.
I live with two rescued huskies and one rescued husky/terrier mix. None of them can be summed up in this little box. They’re all too wonderful for words. Whether they’re making me laugh, keeping me active, or just keeping me company, they’re the best friends anybody could ever ask for.
The day after Hurricane IKE hit Houston, we lost our beloved Mandy – a collie that we had for 10 years – she just couldn’t handle the pressure from the storm. 3 weeks after that my best friend Max – a rottweiler we had for 7 years passed away due to pancreitis. Needless to say, I was devastated. My son Kyle went out and bought my Chuey – a 6 week Siberian Husky. He has brought so much joy back into our home and lives with his cute little face and hilarious antics. Thank God for dogs!
my dog is named tubby. she is a 15 month old american bulldog.
We are human companions to 4 dogs; Missy 18 years old, Katie 15 years old, Ali 10 years old and Maxie 12 years and 2 birds; Saba 20 and Jake 14. Missy and Katie are Bichon Fries, Ali is a boxer and Maxie (who full name is Maxine Abigail Bullwinkle) is an English Bull Terrier. Saba is a Goffins Cockatoo. We are blessed that they chose us.
I have two dogs – Tanner a yellow Lab and Sam a Chihuahua Terrier mix. Sam is actually my step daughters dog. Tanner loves rawhides and long walks. He is a bit possesive of his bones actually and hordes them – stealing Sam’s bones all the time! They have fun together playing out in the yard, barking at my cats, and licking the peanut butter from their Kong Toys.
Sprout — also known as Sprouty is very wise and is a little grey 13 year old neutered cat. He is surviving with CRF Chronic Renal Failure and is best friends his big tiger Murray MacPurry who is 5 years old. Murray offers support and friendship to Sprouty even when it’s time for weekly sub-Q fluids!
Milo the Mighty and Brave is the youngest member of the cat clan and allowed me to dry him with the hair dryer when he jumped in the full bathtub of water on his first day here. They bring love, joy and blessings to my life.
I love to read your blog I would like to enter the contest
I have several pets and all of them are my babies
Shylo and Cheyenne are my dogs they are both just strays but beautiful to me
Shylo came to us a couple years ago it was freezing outside and she just sit on a hill looking at us we had only cats at the time but that face we could just not help her she came in after being checked at the vet and is the most humble dog I have ever met.
Cheyenne is also a stray who came by one day and was in heat we felt so bad for her all the dogs after her so we put her in our yard to keep them from her well another cutie pie Shylo needed another friend to run and play with so after a visit to the vet we now have two beautiful girls
Thank you for all you do
Debbie
I love reading your blog- especially since Lydia’s name is so close to mine.
I am the human companion to 3 dogs and 4 cats of my own and right now I am keeping my moms 3 dogs. Having 6 little dogs in the house is chaotic but a whole lot of fun, I do not call them a pack instead they are a gaggle! My little dogs are Charlie, a Jack Russell mix who was on the side of the road in 99, Monty, a terrier mix I found in a snow storm and Smokey a poodle from our local humane society.
Moms are Little bear a teacup poodle rescued from a puppy mill, Lacy May( our only girl) a shitsu mix rescue and Fergus Bubbles Pontchartrain a mix who my sister found stray in New Orleans last year. Fergus should have been named Dennis the menace, he just can’t seem to help getting into everything.
Each year for Halloween we dress them all in costumes. We are already working on next years- the battle of Waterloo. This was chosen mainly because we call little bear Napoleon Bearnapart all the time- he does try to run the whole show.
Oh, I’ve never entered one of your contests before. Fun! Got my eye on that Merck Manual and the collar, cool!
I am Johann, but everyone calls me JoJo (YoYo). I’m a bi-black sheltie. I do agility and love to herd sheep. Mum adopted me from a shelter in 2004 at 12 weeks. I’m also Chief Dog and head of product testing at Johannthedog.com (oh, and we’re having a contest too, so everyone stop on over).
My sister Gracie, and my kittie bros, Wolfie and Wiggy all are named after composers, and we live with our Mum in Indiana. But we’d like a little Texas warmth right now!
Thanks and woofs, Johann
Sassy is our older special needs kitty. She’s a very pretty long haired tortie. She was diagnosed last year as hyper thyriod which we help to keep under control with daily medications. She’s pretty crafty as we were tricking her into eating her meds with Pill Pockets but she started eating the treat & spitting out the pill! Naughty kitty!
Our newest is a 6 month old grey & white kitty named Zira. She just recently had her big girl surgery & is now spayed. She has a little congenital kink on the end of her tail & she likes to suck it like a toddler would a thumb! The end of her tail is always wet, lol. She’s looking forward to her first Christmas & New Years with us.
I have three dogs and three cats and foster for Safe Haven Animal rescue here in Austin Tx.
My first rescue was Charlie- He’s DSH flamepoint siamese. (we think). He was adopted in 2001 from the central texas SPCA here in Leander. He use to literally bounce off the walls when he was younger, now you’ll find him either curled up on the couch with Kylee (we’ll get to her soon) or under the covers of my bed.
Then we rescued Maggie (13lbs terrier mix) from the Austin Humane Society in ’02. Maggie is the best mannered dog EVER. Her only vice is that she’s a submissive pee’er. She was abandoned in an apartment complex for over two weeks. She was so hungry there wasn’t even feces found! But after a lot of self esteem building exercises and agility training she is super outgoing and just a happy dog.
Kyle DSH Tortie ’02- I found Kyle at a cemetery (morbid I know) when I was trying to find the grave site of a friend that just passed away. (Kyle, hence the name) and after searching for almost an hour we saw a kitten under a cement bench and low and behold it was my friends site. Kylee is the most affectionate cat you will ever meet. You can absolutely not get her off your lap once you sit.
Gracie- GSD-’03 was rescued as a puppy from a home who thought throwing stick and yard junk at her and not feeding her often would help make her a good guard dog. I was called my a concerned friend and we “removed” her from the situation. Even though she has more issues than one can shake a stick at… No regrets!
Dude tan chihuahua-’03 I adopted dude from a “Rescue” group/hoarder situation. He was adopted and returned 4 times before he found his forever home with me. Dude is not your typical chihuahua, he doesn’t nip or yap or shake. He’s quite friendly and has even been in a commercial. He also knows tons of tricks and although he is a victim of bad breeding (is any breeding good breeding?) he is almost completely blind and still manages to “be a bear”!
Kitty DLH Calico ’04- Kitty was found by me when I was driving home from work one day in the rain and a car in front of me swerved to miss a kitten on the road. I saw this kitten roll and land so I stopped the car and went to check on the kitten who sadly was hit and didn’t make it. Near by was a small box and inside it 5 dead kittens and one semi-alive kitten cover in maggots. I took this kitten to the nearest pet hospital and several days later took her home and bottle fed her and administered sub-q fluids with the intentions of adopting her out- this is why we never came up with a more creative name. Kitty still lives here, and torments the dog and other cats. And even though I woke up every 2-3 hours to feed her,and give her fluids for a couple of weeks, -till this day that cat will only let me pet her at the most; once a week! She is the most ungrateful cat ever! But we love her.
So thats my zoo in a nutshell!
My dogs name is Sawyer. He’s a purebred Saddleback German Shephard. I rescued Sawyer from a kill shelter in 2001 when he was just a puppy. Sawyer is the most hilarious dog I’ve ever seen. He pouts, glares, and yipps in his sleep. Sawyer is also very loving & protective of those that he’s close to. Sawyer is just a big lovable teddy bear.

Flecks is a 9yo German Shorthaired Pointer rescued off the interstate in Kansas. An online friend stopped and picked her up before she got hit by the cars swerving around her. She is not car-wise, so we have no idea how she was not hit that day since my friend stopped at the house by the exit and was told that Flecks had been running out there all day!
My friend couldn’t take her home to her two dogs because they were very jealous and territorial, so she got the name of the nearest vet to see if she belonged to a local client. No such luck, but they were willing to hold her for 3 days.
I was chatting with her after the loss of my sweet Giant Schnauzer that had been shot and killed by an irresponsible hunter, and telling her how I was rescuing what dogs I could while trying to find the right dog for me. She happened to mention the German Shorthair she just found, and since I couldn’t stand the thought of a healthy dog being put down for now reason, told her to give me the number and I would call them the next day and make arrangements to drive out that weekend to pick her up as those were my next days off.
It just so happens that she was recently retired, and since we had been chatting a couple of years, she thought it would be nice to come out and visit and bring the dog. My Christmas present was, I wouldn’t have to pay boarding bill, heartworm test, or rabies vaccination! : – ) My original intention was to do what I had done with the other dogs I had rescued… place her in the GSP rescue. So on December 14/15, my friend drove all the way from Kansas to Indiana and delivered this poor, lost dog. She walked in the house with her head and tail down, a bit underweight, looked around, and curled up on the couch and sighed…. that did it! She was mine!
Well, we have a few pets… a cute Maltese with her own website, a funny little bird, and a rat named after a Mario character!
We have 3 pets:
Kona – a Westie, Cooper – a Beagle, and Lupo – a tuxedo cat. Kona and Cooper maintain a twitter account, http://twitter.com/konacooper where they will frequently update with what they’re doing. Cooper recently updated, “My mouth is burning soooo bad. I ate some of mommy’s sriracha sauce off her plate. owwwwwwwwwwww wooooO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”.
